Reduce Food Waste

  • Save money by buying less food.
  • Conserve energy and resources, prevent pollution involved in the growing, manufacturing, transporting, and selling food (not to mention hauling the food waste and then incinerating it).
  • Support our community by providing donated food that would have otherwise gone to waste to those who are hungry.

Source Reduction = Buy Less Food

The best approach to reducing food loss and waste is not to create it in the first place.

  1. Plan Meals - only buy perishable food you have a plan for using
  2. Utilize extra veggies in a stir fry or soup
  3. Freeze leftovers BEFORE they go bad.
  4. Utilize an ice cube tray to freeze extra portions from opened cans.

  2. Portion out healthy meals that are suitable for someone who is frail. Fill out food info sheet/label, and Freeze.
  3. Bring frozen meal(s) to a freezer site for distribution.
