How will you lower your impact on the climate?

Solutions to climate change are available in all sectors. 45% of US emissions are from citizens. While individual solutions alone will not solve the climate crisis, no solution alone will. We need all solutions and as many people taking action as possible.

Should I keep my car or buy an electric or hybrid car?

The carbon footprint of this and other actions for your amount of driving can be determined by using the Cool Climate Calculator.  Go to the "Take Action" section after you enter in your specific lifestyle data and find out how doing different actions effect your carbon footprint.

What about having one less child as a climate action?

There has been much controversy over this suggested action. The climate action suggestion stems in part from a 2017 scientific paper by Seth Wynes and Kimberly Nicolas makes the case that having one less child accounts for the highest carbon emissions savings action a person can do. They calculated the forecasted emissions that not only that child but the emissions from the expected descendants of that child.

People have countered that focusing on population control is not the true issue but instead reducing the carbon footprint of a typical person. In addition , the Founders group suggested that new policy initiatives will reduce peoples carbon footprints. Taking that into account, they suggested that the forecasted carbon savings is closer to living car free.
