There has been much controversy over this suggested action. The climate action suggestion stems in part from a 2017 scientific paper by Seth Wynes and Kimberly Nicolas makes the case that having one less child accounts for the highest carbon emissions savings action a person can do. They calculated the forecasted emissions that not only that child but the emissions from the expected descendants of that child.
People have countered that focusing on population control is not the true issue but instead reducing the carbon footprint of a typical person.
